Difference Between Hot and Cold Rolled Steel Metal
Sep 11, 2014 · Cold finished bars are typically harder to work with than hot rolled due to the increased carbon content. However, this cannot be said about cold rolled sheet and hot rolled sheet. With these two products, the cold rolled product has low carbon content and it is typically annealed, making it softer than hot rolled sheet.
316L stainless steel sheet 2B finish has a mill finish, which is smooth and NOT the brushed finish commonly seen on kitchen appliances. Our 316L stainless steel sheet 2B finish will not have a protective film to prevent scratching, so the 316L stainless steel will commonly have scratching (not gouging) from when it is cut to size, fabricated, shipped, etc.
TW Metals stocks a wide range of stainless steel sheet. Austenitic stainless steel is one of the most widely used and versatile type of steel. If you are looking for special sizes or DFARS or domestic material, TW Metals has relationships with the domestic mills.
Stainless Steel 316/316L - Steel, Aluminum, Stainless, Hot
Grade 316L (L= low carbon) ) is the same as the above except it has an extra-low-carbon analysis, the advantage of which is that it precludes any harmful precipitation in the 800º F to 1500º F range that might result from welding heavier sections. Therefore 316L is extensively used in
Speedy Metals Information for 316/316L Stainless Steel Sheet
316/316L dual certified stainless sheet is an "18-8" austenitic chromium-nickel steel modified by the addition of molybdenum, which greatly increases the corrosion resistance as well as the mechanical properties at elevated temperatures.
316 Stainless Steel Bar. ApplicationsPumps, valves, textile and chemical equipment, pulp & paper and marine applications. CharacteristicsThis grade of stainless steel bar is more resistant to corrosion and pitting than 304 and offers higher strength at elevated temperatures. In addition, 316L is an extra low carbon variation that helps avoid carbide precipitation due to welding.

In some cases, secondary annealing 300 series stainless steel may be required depending on the application By bar the 2B finish is the most common non polished surface finish for cold rolled stainless steel sheet. No 1A rough, dull surface, which results from hot rolling to the specified thickness, followed by annealing and descaling.

HEAT TREATING. 316/316L is not hardenable by heat treatment. Cold working increases tensile strength and hardness. Annealing range is between 1850 and 2050F. Cool rapidly. Water should be used for heavier sections; air for lighter sections. The stress relieving range is between 400° and 750°F.

Used for elevated temperature applications, including handling hot organic and fatty acids, boat rails and hardware and facades of buildings near the ocean. 321. A stabilized stainless steel which offers excellent resistance to corrosion following exposure to temperature between 800-1500 Deg F. Applications include Boiler and Pressure Vessels
